Why Oxford

What Makes This Location Different

  • Students live in real Oxford college accommodation, Balliol, Queen's, Keble, St Hugh's or St Peter's, rather than a generic dormitory block.
  • This is a different product to our other UK schools: an academic enrichment course (Medicine, Law, Engineering, Business and more) rather than a general English course, aimed at students who already have a strong level of English and want a taste of university-style study.
  • Off-campus, students can punt on the river, tour the Bodleian Library, or walk the streets and colleges used as filming locations for the Harry Potter films.

Oxford International Summer School: What to Expect

Our Oxford summer school is run by Oxford Royale on the campus of the University of Oxford, founded in 1096 and the oldest university in the English-speaking world. It is different from our other UK courses: an academic summer school in which students study a subject in English, rather than a General English course.

Subjects and age groups

Students choose from 13 subject areas, including Medicine, Law & Politics, Engineering, Economics & Finance, Experimental Psychology, Architecture & Design and Film, as well as English as a Foreign Language. Classes are split into two age groups, 13-15 and 16-18, and courses run for 2, 4 or 6 weeks. A 2-week course includes about 40 hours of academic teaching.

Living in an Oxford college

Students live in real Oxford colleges: Balliol, Queen's, Keble, St Hugh's or St Peter's. Dinner ranges from relaxed suppers to formal banquets, and evenings bring quiz nights, debating challenges and socials. In free time students can go punting, visit the Bodleian Library or see Christ Church's Great Hall, a Harry Potter filming location.

Is it the right course?

It suits students who already speak English well and want a taste of university study before choosing a degree. If the main goal is to improve English, a General English summer school is usually a better fit; our Cambridge course is the closest alternative.
