Guide

Choosing an English Summer School in England

General English is offered at 7 of our 9 UK schools, so the course itself is similar everywhere: 15 hours of lessons a week, a placement test on arrival, full-board accommodation, excursions and supervised evenings. What changes is the setting, the age range and the accommodation. Three questions narrow the choice quickly.

1. How old is your child?

For students aged 8-10, look at Bournemouth or Oakham, which accept the youngest students. For 14-17, every school is an option. 18-year-olds can join some schools only as part of a group whose students return to secondary education the following September.

2. City, campus or coast?

3. Shared room, ensuite or host family?

Residential rooms are usually shared with shared bathrooms; ensuite rooms have a private bathroom; homestay, offered in Canterbury and London, means living with a local family. Our accommodation guide explains each option.
